I've been working on a list of sledding locations around Winnipeg! Please let me know what i've missed.
🛷Transcona🛷
👉Victoria Jason Park has a large hill, with a second smaller hill which is good for all ages! There's no indoor area, but 2 lots to park at. There’s fast spots, slow spots, and tailbone bruising spots. A playground is near by.
👉 Harbourview Park & Recreation Complex has a large, slower hill. Sometimes they have bathroom or porta potty access, I'm not sure about this year.
👉 There is also a hill used for Sledding at the Kilcona Multi-Use park which is on the east side of Lagimodier Blvd at the end of McIvor Ave, however it’s attached to the official dog park, there's no fence, while it is a fun hill for sledding being on the bigger side and fast, there are sometimes poops left behind.
👉 At Gunn Rd and the Perimeter Hwy you can sled onto the floodway from Duff Roblin Park, be aware that this is a popular area for people to let their dogs off leash.
👉 Small hills are at Harold Hatcher School and Wayoata School. Perfect for the smallest or most cautious sledders.
🛷Elmwood/Kildonan🛷
👉 Civic Park has 2 big hills and is pretty fast. There are several spots where it’s easy to hit the fence so remember to remind your kids to make good choices. You could park at Valley Gardens CC and walk 5-10 minutes to the hills, walk back to warm up, have a snack, and go ice skating! Make sure to check that the club and ice are both open first.
👉 Bunn’s Creek Centennial Park at 365 Mcivor has a wooden toboggan run. You can take any kind of sled on it. It’s fast and fun! If you need a more relaxed experience there’s also a few spots to sled down the bank onto the frozen stream. This is one of the only places you can go sledding that has bathroom access. There is also a playground right beside the parking lot and a skating rink.
👉 Frasers Grove Park (I'm not sure if it’s a hill or toboggan slide, I've never actually been here)
🛷West Kildonan/Tyndall🛷
👉 West Kildonan Kildonan Park at 2015 Main St has 2 toboggan slides, one of which is 12ft high. It’s lit at night, there are indoor washrooms nearby, parking, and ice skating. It’s also a picturesque park in the winter.
👉 Vince Leah Park at 1295 Salter St has a small man made hill with a gentle slope.
👉 Adsum Park at 434 Adsum Dr is another small gentle slope
👉 Wolsley Omand Park 1430 Portage Ave has a gentle slope by the baseball diamond
👉 Laura Secord School 960 Wolseley Ave has a small hill great for the littlest sledders
👉 Wolseley school 511 Clifton St has a small hill
👉 William Marshall Park at the end of Dominion st has a spot where you can sled onto the river
👉 Robert A Street CC 980 Palmerston Ave Has a hill behind the club that goes onto the river and is a bit faster
🛷St James/Crestview🛷
👉 Westview Park aka Garbage Hill at 1 Midland St has a large, wide hill with varied slopes for different speeds, great city views, but no lights or shelters.
👉 Sturgeon Creek Sledding at the end of Vimy Rd, just north of Hamilton Ave. Once the creek is frozen this is a great sledding location
👉 You can also sled onto the creek at Woodhaven Park at 1870 Assiniboine Ave. They have a great playground too! This is a faster ride!
🛷Charleswood/River Heights🛷
👉 Sledding at Roblin Park Community Centre at 640 Pepperloaf Crescent offers a small hill, ice slides and a skating rink.
👉 Assiniboine park has a sledding location just outside the Nature Playground north entrance and at The Leaf on the north side
👉 Wellington Park has a small embankment that runs onto the ball diamonds. This is a gentle slope.
👉 Central Corydon C.C. Sir John Franklin Site at 1 Sir John Franklin Rd has a toboggan slide
👉 Corydon Community Centre - Crestwood Site has a toboggan slide
👉 Big Bertha is a sledding hill on a lot at the end of Carmarthen Blvd at Edgeland Blvd
🛷Whyte Ridge/Fort Richmond🛷
👉 Fort Whyte has a huge, fast toboggan run, but you have to pay to enter the facility
👉 Whyte Ridge CC 170 Fleetwood Rd has a small hill
👉 Scurfield Park 3 Monticello Rd has been a popular sledding location for decades with a large hill.
👉 There is a small hill along Ken Oblik Greenway near Waverley st at John Agnus Dr
